There are a number of approaches to Fengshui. The practitioners follow either one or a mix of all the approaches. The end result is to fine tune the building for those who live or work in it. The most popular amongst all the approaches is the Compass approach. One since it is accurate and also since it is relevant in today’s context. The Chinese practitioners use a Lo Pan or Compass that not only gives the directions but also the energy of each direction. Interpreting these energies suggest suitable sites for human dwelling.
In order to put Fengshui principles to practise the most important and necessary step is to have the scale plan of the building. We need to measure all the floors and rooms and draw the same on a graph paper. Every important detail of a house like the bedrooms, toilet, and placement of the WC, placement of the gas stove, placement of beds, doors, windows, and staircases needs to be marked on the graph sheet. Once we have all these details, we need to take the compass reading.
For taking the compass reading we need to remove watches, jewellery and metal objects and stand clear of cars and metal fixtures. While taking the reading we need to bear in mind that we take the Magnetic North reading and not the Geographical North. Once all the readings are in place we need to transfer the readings onto the plan and determine the Cardinal (East, West, North, and South) and Inter-Cardinal Directions (north-east, South-east, South-west, North-west)
Drawing a plan and taking the readings is one of the most important steps. Ignoring this step and basing the placement of objects and other remedies on estimates will never give us the desired results.
